Terms of Service

1. Agreement

By using fictbase.com or installing the FICTBASE plugin, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use our service.

These terms apply to all users, including free users, Pro subscribers, and anyone accessing this website.

2. The free plugin

The FICTBASE WordPress plugin is free and open-source software released under the GNU General Public Licence v2.0 or later (GPL-2.0+). You may use, copy, modify, and distribute the free plugin under the terms of the GPL. The GPL licence applies only to the plugin code, not to the FICTBASE name, logo, or website.

3. Pro licence

The FICTBASE Pro add-on is proprietary software. When you purchase a Pro licence:

  • You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Pro features on one (1) WordPress installation per active licence.
  • You may not redistribute, resell, sublicence, or share your licence key.
  • Your licence is valid for the subscription period (monthly or annual) and continues as long as your subscription is active.
  • Cancelling your subscription ends access to Pro features. Your stories and chapters remain published using the free features.

4. Payments and billing

  • Pro subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis.
  • All prices are in USD and exclude any applicable taxes, which may be added at checkout.
  • Payments are processed by Stripe. By purchasing, you also agree to Stripe’s terms.
  • Annual subscriptions auto-renew each year. Monthly subscriptions auto-renew each month. You may cancel at any time from the customer portal to prevent renewal.
  • We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days’ notice to existing subscribers.

5. Refunds

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on Pro licences. If you are not satisfied for any reason, contact support@fictbase.io within 30 days of purchase and we will issue a full refund. See our Refund Policy for full details.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use FICTBASE to:

  • Publish or distribute content that is illegal, fraudulent, or infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source code of the Pro add-on.
  • Attempt to circumvent licence validation.
  • Use our service in a way that causes harm to others or to our infrastructure.

7. Your content

The FICTBASE plugin stores your stories and chapters in your own WordPress database. We do not access, claim ownership of, or bear responsibility for any content you publish on your WordPress installation. You retain all rights to your content.

8. Service availability

We aim for high availability of fictbase.com and the licence validation service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We are not liable for any downtime. The FICTBASE plugin will continue to function even if our servers are temporarily unavailable — licence validation uses a grace period.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The FICTBASE plugin and service are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the plugin will be error-free or compatible with every WordPress configuration.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FICTBASE shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the plugin or service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at our discretion. Refunds in termination cases are handled on a case-by-case basis.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration or small claims court where applicable.

13. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of our service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
